Day 1: The Bet

Hello world, my name is Jeremy.  I recently graduated from Northeastern University, where I majored in Business with a concentration in accounting.  I am 22-years-old and live at home with my mom, who owns a dance studio three blocks from the house.

Why am I blogging?
I decided to start this blog because of a bet I recently made with my best friend Julian.  I told him that I thought I could become a millionaire in three years if I committed myself entirely to making money.  This blog is in place, to both document the bet, and to start a dialogue with anyone who is willing to give me advice or who is just interested in the bet itself.

When does it start?
Today is January 24th, 2012 and I have $417 in the bank.  That means that I need to be worth $1,000,000 by January 24th 2015.

What I’m Doing Now
My mom offered me a job at her studio, where I’d be helping her manage her business’ finances as well as answer phones (I worked for my college’s phonathon) and be sort of a receptionist.  While this $13/hour position doesn’t exactly put me on “The Fast Track,” it’s better than nothing.  I’ve decided to work for my mom until I find something better.

The First Step
I will include my résumé in my next post and I hope you guys will give me comments and corrections.  For now, I will try to accumulate capital and look for jobs in the meantime.

Until Next Time
JS

  1. Hey man, my advice would be to just do something big, Make a bold move and stick too it, working for your mom is great and all but don't get too comfortable there, because you could lose track of your $1,000,000 goal!

  2. I went to Northeastern too!!! Graduated in 2009. Wish I had the drive to do what you're setting out to do. Funny how a good education can leave you with $417 in the bank. I'm barely affording the rent working as a receptionist for a newspaper...not even a report, a receptionist. So much for 200,000 dollars huh? too cynical? sorry...just trying to be honest. Hope it works out for you!
